Pattern

Do-San
Do-San is the pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Ch’ang-Ho (1876-1938) who devoted his life to furthering the education of Korea and its independence movement.
Number of Movements: 24.
Ready Position: Parallel Ready Stance.
The diagram for this pattern assumes that the student is stood on line AB and is facing D.
  1. Move the left foot to B, forming a left walking stance, executing a left high outer forearm block.
  2. Execute a right middle punch to B, maintaining a left walking stance toward B.
  3. Move the left foot on line AB, and then turn clockwise to form a right walking stance toward A , executing a right high outer forearm block.
  4. Execute a left middle punch to A, maintaining a right walking stance toward A.
  5. Move the left foot to D, forming a right L-stance, a middle knife hand guarding block to D.
  6. Move the right foot to D forming a right walking stance, executing a right middle straight fingertip thrust.
  7. Twist the right knife-hand together with the body counter clockwise until its palm faces downward, move the left foot to D turning counter clockwise to form a left walking stance toward D, executing a left high side back fist strike.
  8. Move the right foot to D forming a right walking stance, executing a right high side back fist strike.
  9. Move the left foot to E, turning counter clockwise to form a left walking stance toward E, executing a left high outer forearm block.
  10. Execute a right middle punch to E with the right fist, maintaining a left walking stance toward E.
  11. Move the left foot on line EF, and then turn clockwise to form a right walking stance toward F, executing a right high outer forearm block.
  12. Execute left a middle punch to F, maintaining a right walking stance toward F.
  13. Move the left foot to CE forming a left walking stance toward CE, executing a high outer forearm wedging block.
  14. Execute a right middle front snap kick to CE with the right foot, keeping the position of the hands as they were in 13.
  15. Lower the right foot to CE forming a right walking stance toward CE, executing a right middle punch.
  16. Execute a left middle punch to CE, maintaining a right walking stance. Perform 15 and 16 in a fast motion.
  17. Move the right foot to CF forming a right walking stance toward CF while executing a high outer forearm wedging block.
  18. Execute a left middle front snap kick to CF, keeping the position of the hands as they were in 17.
  19. Lower the left foot to CF forming a left walking stance toward CF, executing aleft  middle punch.
  20. Execute a right middle punch to CF, maintaining a left walking stance. Perform 19 and 20 in a fast motion.
  21. Move the left foot to C forming a left walking stance, executing a left rising block.
  22. Move the right foot to C forming a right walking stance, executing a right rising block.
  23. Move the left foot to B, turning counter clockwise to form a sitting stance toward D, executing a left middle knife hand strike to B.
  24. Bring the left foot to the right foot and then move the right foot to A forming a sitting stance toward D, executing a right middle knife hand strike to A.
Bring the right foot back to the ready position.

Sparring

3 Step Sparring ( 5 – 7 )
3 step sparring is designed for the beginner to learn the basic Tae Kwon-Do techniques. It teaches the student many things. Proper distance, correct facing, forearm conditioning, correct blocks, correct stances, counter attacks and timing.
The Attacker always starts in Left Walking Stance, Low Section Outer Forearm Block. Steps Forward in Walking Stance Middle Section Obverse Punch x 3. The Defender always starts in Parallel Ready Stance.

Right Leg Back, L Stance Middle Section Outer Forearm Block x 2.
Counter – Move the Right Leg into Sitting Stance Parallel to Opponent, Execute a Left Middle Section Outer Forearm Block and a Punch to the Hinge or Point of the Jaw.

Right Leg Back, L Stance Middle Section Knife Hand Block x 2.
Counter – Move the Right Leg into Sitting Stance Parallel to Opponent, Execute a Left Middle Section Knife Hand Block and a Inward Knife Hand Strike to the Side of the Opponents Neck.

Right Leg Back, L Stance Middle Section Outer Forearm Block x 2.
Counter – Slide back at a 30˚ Angle into a Right L Stance Forearm Guarding Block, Execute a Right Front Snap Kick Landing in Right Walking Stance Double Punch to Opponents Solar Plexus.
